I ventured the Hawai'i Loa Ridge Trail back when Michael was here. The trailhead starts halfway up the mountain, at park that is attached to a gated community (so we had to prove residency to get into the community...residency of Hawaii, not residency in the rich-people-neighborhood. I digress...). It was a beautiful hike up a ridge with (as always) some great views. I didn't take that many photos, but here are a few.
Part of the park area where the trailhead starts.
The hike follows a ridge up to the top of the Ko'olau Mountain Range.
This picture would show the destination, however, the destination is
hidden in that cloud up there.
The next two pictures look back towards the sea where the
trailhead started. Dave and Michael...just taking their time...
Like you saw in the first picture, the clouds were hanging low on the Ko'olau Mountain Range. This makes all the pictures near the top fuzzy, but here are a couple shots from the top of Range. This hike started on the leeward side (the west side of the range) and the trail went all the way up to lookout over the windward side (the east side of the range). The trail just followed a ridge line all the way to the top. The top was a little muddy, slippery and precarious, so I left my camera safely tucked away.
Dave and Michael at the top...mission accomplished (except that
we need to hike the rest of the way back down the mountain)
Mahalo for visiting!
